I’ve come to the realization that I have to get over trying to have the perfect family with only Norman Rockwell moments. Seeing the giant orange raisins that used to be our beautifully carved pumpkins brought me back to reality! We could only ignore them so long until they finally caved in on themselves and we had to break down and throw them in the garbage. It’s been so long since I’ve carved a pumpkin that I forgot that they only last TWO DAYS once they’re carved...okay, maybe it stayed intact THREE DAYS but it definitely wasn't long enough!!…aaarrrggghhh!]
We did have a fun “family day” about a week ago and went up to the North Georgia mountains to this beautiful place on a river where Rob likes to fish. We bought our pumpkins at a small “mom & pop” vegetable market and carved them while Rob fished. Christina thought it was strange that we were cutting up pumpkins (they don’t do that in Latvia) but she went along with it. Once she saw how they looked with the candles in them, she thought it was a cool thing to do. Too bad they didn't last longer. Okay, I'm letting it go.
For Halloween, Christina decided she wanted to be Barbie but once she quizzed her friends about their costumes, later decided she might look too babyish. She decides this after we get all the accessories for a Barbie costume!! Well, how do you jazz up a Barbie costume, you ask? Of course, you add a little fake blood and vampire teeth and voila, you have “Vampire Barbie!!!!” I must say that it was original. There were no other Vampire Barbies out there. LOL!
Christina went trick-or-treating with some of her Latvian friends who live nearby. Their neighborhood has lots more houses than ours does so she got lots of candy. It did get pretty crazy at one point because a lot of other people had the same idea of trick-or-treating in that neighborhood. The traffic was such a nightmare that the cops had to come assist. It was pretty stressful at the time but the most important thing was that Christina had a blast on her first Halloween in America. It's so cool being a parent!!
