Christina had her first science projects in school and she had to make a cell and a DNA strand. I got her the materials and told her to have at it. She made the cell out of play-doh, gummy worms, jelly beans and a golf ball. I was quite impressed with the results I must say.
Oh, I survived the youth retreat ...barely. Talk about exhausting. This was my first adventure as a chaperone. Now I understand why it's hard to get volunteers. LOL! I was expecting to go hang out with the kids but ended up with kitchen duty with two other people. There were 45 kids there and by the time we finished with one meal it was time to turn around and make the snack, then the next meal, etc. Luckily, one of the dad's has a catering business so he knew how to cook for all those people. I and another lady from our church were his assistants. Every time we had some down time, all I wanted to do was go lay down. How pathetic is that? I guess my age is catching up with me. HA! The lodge we stayed at in Tennessee was okay, just very old and musty. The rooms had that wood paneling that goes from floor to ceiling and had green carpet that looked like that indoor/outdoor stuff. It was kinda like camping indoors. Let's just say I was very glad to get back home. There was a little pouting at the beginning when Christina didn't get her choice of rooms. All the girls picked out their bunks and somehow she ended up being one of the last ones to pick hers. She didn't get to bunk with her friends. Lucikly, it turned out to be an opportunity for her to make new friends so it all worked out. Thankfully, there wasn't much pre-teen drama on this trip. Or I guess if there was I didn't know about it 'cause I was in the kitchen the whole time anyway!! LOL! I think overall the kids had an awesome time.
Let's see...what else has been going on. Well, Grandmother was diagnosed with shingles so we've been keeping an eye on her. She's got medicine she's taking for it and her doctor says she should be fine. It's just hard on her because it's pretty painful. It's always something, isn't it.
Christina went to her first sleepover birthday party for one of her friends from school. The mom took all the girls to get their nails done so of course she loved that. We're just so happy she's making friends and enjoying life. This weekend is the fall festival at her school so she's excited about that. We also have to work on her Halloween costume. She was supposed to be Barbie but it's evolving more into a vampire Barbie. Not sure what she'll end up looking like but it should be interesting.
